JOIK Organic · Est. 2005 · Tallinn, Estonia

Built to leave
less behind.

Sustainability at JOIK was never a pivot or a response to consumer pressure. It was built into the brand from the beginning — in how we source, how we make things, what we put in our products, and what we choose not to put in them.

The Philosophy

Sustainability isn't a program.
It's a consequence of doing things right.

Most brands add sustainability initiatives on top of an existing way of making things. JOIK started the other way around. When you source ingredients from protected Estonian forests instead of industrial farms, you're preserving biodiversity. When you manufacture everything in one place with green energy, you're eliminating supply chain emissions. When you formulate with 99.5–100% natural origin ingredients, you're keeping synthetic chemistry out of the water system.

None of this was designed as an environmental program. It was designed as a quality standard. The sustainability outcomes are real — and they're a direct result of the decisions that make JOIK products work better.

"The most sustainable product is one made with ingredients that didn't require a factory to produce, manufactured in a place powered by the wind and the sun, packaged to waste nothing and last until the very last drop."

Energy

100% renewable energy.
Every product. No exceptions.

100%
Green Energy Manufacturing

Every JOIK product — skincare, makeup, body care, candles, diffusers — is manufactured using 100% renewable energy in our Tallinn factory. This applies to every product in every line without exception.

🏭
1
Factory. One Energy Source.

Everything is made in a single in-house facility in Tallinn. One factory, one energy standard. There is no outsourced manufacturing where we can't control the energy source.

🌍
#1
Estonia's Environmental Rank

Estonia ranks #1 globally on the 2024 Environmental Performance Index. The country we manufacture in is itself the world's most environmentally responsible nation — that context matters.

ECOCERT
Certified Requirement

Renewable energy manufacturing is not just a JOIK commitment — it is a requirement of ECOCERT organic certification. It is independently verified every year as part of the annual audit process.

Ingredient Sourcing

Wild harvested. Traceable.
From a specific place — not a factory.

🌲
Estonian Birch Sap
Kirbu Village · Võrumaa Forest · Southeast Estonia

Harvested for just 2–3 weeks each spring from silver birch trees in the untouched forests of Kirbu village. Wild harvested — not farmed. The trees are tapped carefully so they continue to grow. The same forests, the same trees, year after year.

🌊
Saaremaa Red Algae
Baltic Sea Coastline · Saaremaa Island · Western Estonia

Harvested from the unpolluted Baltic Sea shores surrounding Saaremaa — Estonia's largest island. Cold, clean, protected waters. No industrial farming. The algae grows wild and is harvested sustainably from one of Europe's most pristine coastal environments.

🍒
Saaremaa Lingonberry & Alfalfa
Saaremaa Island · Western Estonia

Both sourced from Saaremaa's unique microclimate — maritime winds, mineral-rich soil, zero industrial contamination. Verified organic origin under ECOCERT certification. No pesticides, no heavy metals, no compromise.

🏔
Short Supply Chain
Estonia to Estonia

JOIK's key botanicals are sourced in Estonia and manufactured in Estonia. The supply chain for our core ingredients is measured in kilometers, not continents. Less transport. Less handling. More traceability. Full control from field to formula.

🚫
No Pesticides. No Heavy Metals.
ECOCERT Verified · All Certified Products

All raw materials used in ECOCERT certified products are verified for organic origin and ethical sourcing. Synthetic pesticides, GMOs, and petrochemicals are banned and independently audited. Plants grown in Estonia's clean environment absorb none of the pollutants found in conventionally farmed ingredients.

🌿
Vegetable-Based Everything
Body Care & Home Fragrance

Body care scenting uses pure essential oils and vegetable-based ingredients. Candle wax is European rapeseed — a crop, not a petroleum product. Diffuser carriers use eco glycerin from renewable plant sources. The plant-based approach runs through every category.

Palm Oil Free

Every JOIK soap bar.
Palm oil free. By design.

0
Palm Oil in Any JOIK Soap

Every handmade JOIK soap bar — across every collection — is explicitly palm oil free. A deliberate formulation decision, not an accident.

9
Plant Oils Instead

JOIK soap bars use up to nine plant-based oils that outperform palm oil on every measure — skin feel, lather quality, and environmental impact.

Palm oil is the world's most widely used vegetable oil — and one of the leading drivers of tropical deforestation, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss. It appears in an estimated 50% of all packaged consumer goods, including the majority of commercial soap bars.

JOIK chose not to use it. Every handmade cold-process soap bar is formulated with a blend of plant oils that are sustainably sourced and deliver a superior result on skin — richer lather, better moisturization, no compromise on performance.

Packaging

Designed to waste nothing.
Honest about where we are.

💧
Airless Pump Technology

Select body lotions and skincare products use vacuum airless pump packaging. No air enters the bottle — formula stays fresher longer and every last drop is dispensed. Zero product waste left behind in the container.

Monomaterial Packaging

Where possible, JOIK uses monomaterial packaging structures — single material throughout, no mixed plastics or laminated layers that make recycling impossible. Verified on confirmed SKUs.

BPA-Free Plastic

Where plastic is used — makeup sticks, select body care — it is BPA-free and selected for safety, durability, and real-world recyclability. No unnecessary packaging layers.

🪟
Glass Candle Vessels

JOIK candles are poured into colored glass vessels — inherently recyclable, reusable, and designed to be kept long after the candle is gone. The vessel is part of the product, not disposable packaging.

A note on packaging claims

We verify recyclability and sustainability claims at the product level — not across the entire range. Where a product uses recyclable or monomaterial packaging, it is confirmed and stated. We do not make blanket packaging claims we cannot back up with SKU-level verification. This is the honest approach — and we think it matters.

Home Fragrance

Rapeseed wax.
Not paraffin. Ever.

JOIK candles Estonia

Most scented candles are made from paraffin — a petroleum byproduct that releases toxic compounds when burned and is derived from crude oil refining. JOIK uses European rapeseed wax exclusively. It is a crop, not a petroleum product. It is grown in Europe, biodegradable, GMO-free, and vegan.

Diffusers and room sprays use an eco glycerin-based solubilizer from renewable plant sources — not petroleum-derived carriers. The same principle applied to a different format.

🌱
Biodegradable

Rapeseed wax breaks down naturally. Paraffin does not.

🧬
GMO-Free

European rapeseed — no genetically modified crops.

🕯
Cleaner Burn

Burns cleaner than paraffin — less soot, less residue, less in your air.

🧵
Cotton Wick

Metal-free cotton wick throughout. No lead, no zinc, no additives.

🌿
Vegan

No beeswax, no animal derivatives of any kind in any JOIK candle.

🏺
Handmade in Estonia

Every candle poured by hand in our Tallinn facility.

US Program

Don't throw the glass away.
Reinvent it.

JOIK candle vessels are made from quality colored glass — dusty purple, sky blue, deep amber. They are too beautiful and too well-made to become landfill. When your candle is finished, clean the vessel and give it a second life.

01
Finish your JOIK candle

Clean out any remaining wax — pour hot water in, let it cool, the wax lifts out cleanly. The glass is ready for its next life.

02
Repurpose it creatively

A planter. A vase. A kitchen jar. A desk organizer. The vessel was designed to be kept — use it however makes sense in your space.

03
Share what it became

Post a photo and tag JOIK. No platform requirement, no hashtag required — just show us what your glass became.

The Reward
We feature your shot.
We send you $100.

When a Second Life photo catches our eye, we feature it on our social channels and send the creator a $100 JOIK gift card — redeemable at joikusa.com. We pick from submissions as they come in. No deadline, no competition. Just beautiful creative reuse that deserves to be seen.

US customers only. Gift card valid at joikusa.com.

The Supply Chain

From Estonian forest
to your door.
The shortest path in beauty.

01
Wild Harvest — Estonian Forests & Coastlines

Birch sap tapped from Kirbu village, Võrumaa. Red algae harvested from Saaremaa's Baltic coast. Lingonberry and alfalfa from Saaremaa's fields. No international shipping, no industrial farming, no intermediaries.

Estonia
02
Formulation & Production — Tallinn Factory

Every JOIK product is formulated and manufactured in-house at our single facility in Tallinn. 100% renewable energy. Small batch. Full quality control. No outsourcing to third-party manufacturers where we lose sight of standards.

Tallinn, Estonia
03
US Distribution — Baltura LLC, Miami

JOIK's exclusive US distributor, Baltura LLC, handles all American distribution from Miami. Products ship from a single US distribution point — not direct from Estonia for every order, which would generate significantly higher shipping emissions per unit.

To You
